New Enrolment Frequently Asked Questions

Enrolments at OLGC – Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed some of the most commonly asked questions from parents. Please let us know if you have any more questions you would like us to clarify.

Does my child need to be Baptised or a practicing Catholic to go to Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School Forestville?
No, they don’t. At OLGC Forestville, we balance children’s academic, social, physical and spiritual growth.

We aren’t Catholic – will this be an issue?
Absolutely not. However, your child will be required to attend Church and learn about the Catholic faith as part of their education, and at OLGC Forestville, we embrace values such as community, respect and compassion.

How much are the school fees at OLGC?

Click here to see our school fees.

Do I need to be in the catchment area?
While being local allows you to fully embrace the community around OLGC Forestville, we are open to accepting enrolment applications outside a traditional catchment area.

Have I left it too late to enrol?
At OLGC Forestville, we accept enrolments for Kindergarten to Year 6, throughout the year.  This will depend on whether there is space available in the grade level at the time of your enquiry.

How many classes will there be?
We are currently a two-stream school, which means we have two classes per school year.

Does my child need to attend an interview?

Yes, each child enrolling in our school needs to attend an enrolment interview with OLGC Principal Fiona Dignan, accompanied by at least one parent or guardian.

What can we expect in the interview?

An interview allows us to get to know potential families. For Kindergarten applications, a series of activities will be set to gauge how each child learns. We can then know how we can best accommodate each child and support them in their learning to give them a solid foundation for their education at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Forestville.

Will there be an orientation day before my child starts at OLGC?

All children commencing at the beginning of the school year will be involved in transition programs. This will vary for children entering at different times of the year.

What happens if my child doesn’t know anyone in the class?
There are many children in the same situation, as we welcome students from a wide range of preschools and areas. Our supportive community allows children lots of opportunity to connect with others and forge new and lasting friendships.

Do you have canteen?
We currently offer canteen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our canteen is run by a co-ordinator and is manned by parent and friend volunteers. Ordering can be done quickly and easily via the QKr! app.  Click here to find out more.

Do you have Before and After School Care (OOSH)?
We are delighted to have an OOSH (Out of School Hours) program on site at OLGC Forestville. Currently, there is always availability both before and after school, and children transition seamlessly between class and OOSH. Before school care begins at 7:00am and after school care finishes at 6:00pm. Bookings can be made easily via the dedicated app. Click here to find out more.

Do you offer band and other extra-curricular activities?
We have the option for band offered as an extra-curricular activity held on school grounds. To find out more about these activities click here.

What is the enrolment process?

Complete an enrolment form, include all supporting documents and submit them to the school office. Enrolment forms are available online or from the school office. Documents needed along with the enrolment form include your child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if you have one), immunisation records, and passport and visa if you are newly arrived in Australia.

For Year 1-6, your child’s two most recent school reports are requested as part of the application together with any specialist reports if applicable eg speech pathology, OT etc. New parents are then interviewed by the Principal before an enrolment is finalised.

Medical Information and any Family Court Orders or parenting plans registered with the Family Court should also be made available at the time of enrolment.

What if my child has learning or physical needs – is he or she still eligible for enrolment?

All families are interviewed before enrolment at OLGC to determine whether there are any additional learning or support needs to cater for. At OLGC we are a welcoming and inclusive school community. We have a diverse learning team to cater for students learning needs. Click here to find out more.

My application has been accepted. What’s next?

If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of offer and transition sessions can be organised. If your child is in Years 1-6, a buddy family will be established to assist in welcoming the new family to the community.

Kindergarten students have a year 6 buddy allocated to help with school transitioning.
