Parent & Parish News Week 10, Term 2 2025

Parent and Parish news

As I prepare to step down from my role as Parent Engagement Coordinator, I want to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to each one of you. Your support, care, and enthusiasm have made my time in this role truly meaningful. OLGC is a wonderfully warm and inclusive community, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such genuine and committed families, as well as our incredible staff.

Although I’ll be stepping away from this position, I’m pleased to continue in my role as Sacramental Coordinator. I look forward to working with families in this capacity and supporting our beautiful family Masses.

First Communion – A Joyful Celebration

The First Communion, held on Saturday 21 June, was a truly special occasion. I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support throughout the sacramental journey. Your guidance and encouragement were instrumental in preparing the children for each of the sacraments.

Thank you also to our dedicated Year 4 teachers, who not only guided the children through the program but generously gave their time on weekends to be present at the celebrations. Your involvement made the experience even more meaningful for the children. I also want to acknowledge the hard work and support of our executive team – your efforts were deeply appreciated.

Confirmation – Looking Ahead

Children who are baptised and currently in Year 3 or above are eligible to begin the Sacramental Program with Confirmation. This sacrament will take place on Saturday, 8 November. A parent information session is scheduled for September, with parent–child lessons to follow in early Term 4.

Save the Date – Festival of Creation

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, 20 September, our parish will host a Festival of Creation at St Anthony’s in the Field, Terrey Hills. It promises to be a joyful day, with Mass and plenty of outdoor activities—a perfect family event to enjoy together.

If you have any questions about upcoming parish or sacramental events, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to help.

Religious Creative Arts Competition 2025

🎨 Theme: WITNESS
“You will receive power from the Holy Spirit, and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8)

The Religious Creative Arts Competition is a long-standing event within Catholic Schools Broken Bay, now in its 12th year. It celebrates the talents of students across five creative categories:

  • Visual Arts
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Short Film

Students will plan and develop their entries during Terms 2 and 3, with submissions due by Friday, 29 August (Week 6, Term 3).

🎤 Showcase Night:
Finalists will perform alongside industry professionals at the Hornsby RSL, 5:30pm on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.

A key element of the competition is how students express their understanding of the theme. In 2025, students are asked to reflect on:

“How is this theme lived out or demonstrated today?”

We’re excited to see the creativity and faith of our students shine once again this year.

For any questions about the competition, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Peace and blessings,

Allison Castilho – Religious Education Coordinator

A message below from Mr Steve Foresto, Classroom teacher and coordinator of OLGC Mini Vinnie’s Group.

Pyjama Day Fun at OLGC Forestville.

On Tuesday, 1 July our school came together in the coziest way possible – by celebrating Pyjama Day in support of Vinnies.
Not only did our students and staff show up in their comfiest PJs, but they also showed up with generous hearts. Many donated warm clothes and non-perishable food items to help those in need this winter.
What a beautiful reminder of the caring and compassionate community we have here at OLGC Forestville. Thank you to everyone who contributed – your kindness makes a difference!
