Young Writer Awards

It is our great pleasure to announce two OLGC students are finalists of the 2022 Northern Beaches Young Writers’ Competition.

Congratulations to Ashley S and Grace S in Year 2. These very talented young writers were in the group of only 24 finalists out of the nearly 300 entries in the Northern Beaches Council Young Writers’ competition.

  • Ashley S was awarded Runner Up for her story Bird Girl
  • Grace S was awarded Highly Commended for her story Halloween Night

The Northern Beaches Mayor, Michael Regan and Illustrator and writer, Aura Parker celebrated the achievements at a presentation night on Wednesday 10 August.

The stories of the finalists are now published as a eBook in the library collection: borrow here.

About the competition

The Young Writers’ Competition is an annual competition open to students up to and including year 12 who live or go to school on the Northern Beaches and are members of the Northern Beaches Council Library Service. Students are invited to write an original story using the featured theme word for a chance to be published as an author in an eBook.

Entries are judged according to characterisation, originality, plot and use of language and arranged into six different age group categories.

Four finalists are chosen in each age category and invited to a presentation night where a winner, runner-up and two highly commended prizes are awarded.
