OLGC Forestville Swimming Carnival 2024 Information

Everything you need to know.

The carnival is for Years 2-6 and will be held at

Warringah Aquatic Centre,

1 Aquatic Drive, Frenchs Forest on Friday, 9 February 2024.

Please arrive at school no later than 8.45am for a timely departure as buses cannot wait for students. The buses will return at around 1.45pm. Students will be brought back to school by bus.

Here’s everything else you need to know about the day:

WHY IS THE CARNIVAL HELD SO EARLY IN THE SCHOOL TERM?:
The carnival date is based around the next rounds of competition across the Diocese. We want our students to have the opportunity to take part in Zone, District, State and so on, should they qualify. The next round of competition is held just a few weeks after our Carnival.

UNIFORM:
Students wear their sports uniform including shoes and socks and can wear a shirt with their house colours. They are to wear swimmers under their uniform.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Backpack with drinks, morning tea and lunch (students will NOT have any access to the canteen at the venue).
  • Swimming cap (optional) and goggles (if swimming).
  • Towel.
  • Reading book or notepad and pencils for in between races.

No hair spray or streamers are permitted by the centre.

HOW DO THEY GET THERE AND BACK?
All students will travel to the venue by bus. (Students whose parents are volunteering may make their way with their parents – please let their teacher know beforehand). The bus will leave OLGC at approximately 9:00am and return to school by approximately 1.45pm. You may choose to take your child home from the swim centre at the completion of the carnival. Please let your child’s teacher know.  You can also pick your child up as usual at the end of the day.

CAN I COLLECT MY CHILD MYSELF?
You may choose to take your child home from the aquatic centre at the completion of the carnival. If you would prefer to do this, the carnival will conclude at lunchtime and you will need to ensure your child’s teacher knows they have been collected, prior to taking them home.

CAN I DROP MY CHILD OFF MYSELF?
No. Students will travel together by bus.  Students whose parents are volunteering may make their way with their parents.

WHICH RACE IS MY CHILD IN?
The children will compete in the age group they are turning in 2024. For example, if they turn 8 in 2024, they will compete in the 8yrs race.

If you enter your child in the 25m race, they are then not eligible for the 50m freestyle race. This is because this race is non-qualifying and is for children who are less confident swimmers.

PLEASE NOTE – THERE WILL BE NO RACE ENTRY CHANGES ALLOWED ON THE DAY OF THE CARNIVAL.
We strongly recommend and encourage students to enter any event they might want to have a go in, as they can always drop out on the day, but it’s trickier to add them in.

NORTHERN BEACHES CARNIVAL:
The Northern Beaches Carnival is made up of several schools around the area. Students who record a time that makes them eligible for the Northern Beaches Carnival will proceed further. Please note children cannot proceed to the Northern Beaches Carnival in an event unless they swim in the 50m race for that event. They must be in the 8 year’s event to compete in that carnival (those in 7’s will not be eligible.)

WHAT IF MY CHILD WANTS TO SIGN UP OR CHANGE RACES ON THE CARNIVAL DAY ITSELF?
Administration and organisation requirements will mean there will be no race entry changes allowed on the day of the carnival.

CAN I COME AND WATCH?
You are welcome to come and watch your child compete. Photos will also be taken on the day of the event.
